ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS

How far is the villa from town?
Hart Bay Beach is right in our backyard. The foot path down to the water is 200 ft. past our driveway on the same side. The fist of the famous North Shore beaches is 10 minutes away. You can get to any number of beaches in under 20 minutes.
Do we need a car to get around?
Yes is the quick answer. Although Tradewinds is less than 2 miles from downtown Cruz Bay it really isn’t walkable. That being said, there are a many open air safari cabs available to drive tourists if you would prefer to be chauffeured around the island.
How can I get from the Airport to the villa?
Most likely you will be arriving to St. John, (U.S. Virgin Islands) from St. Thomas airport. The airport in St. Thomas is located about 30 minutes from the ferry terminal in Red Hook. The most common way is to take a taxi from the airport to Red Hook. Keep in mind that the taxis are shared van taxis and be aware that the taxi usually won’t leave until the van is full or near full. Once you arrive in Red Hook board the ferry for a 20 minute ride to arrive in Cruz Bay. The Red Hook to Cruz Bay ferry runs hourly. The ferry fee is $8/per person plus $4/per bag.
What side of the road do you drive on?
On St John we drive on the left side of the road. Be cautious, take it slow and remember, to look both ways! Another caution- vehicles often stop in the road to chat with pedestrians have patience. You may encounter goats, sheep, donkeys or even cows in the road. Be aware and listen for the honking of horns – as this tells other vehicles that a large truck or vehicle will be going wide on the corner and you’ll need to make room.
Do you need a passport to travel to St. John?
The US Virgin Islands are a US Territory. Therefore, you are not required to carry your passport to enter or exit the Territory. However, carrying your passport when traveling in the Virgin Islands makes the airport portion of your travel faster. From check-in to TSA screening, they prefer your passport over a driver’s license. Also, If you decide to visit any of the British Virgin Islands (BVIs) then you’ll need a passport.
